Dec 2017 - New JMCC editorial board member. Ele is invited to join the editorial board of the Journal of Molecular and Cellular Cardiology by the editor in chief Dr. John Solaro!

Nov 2017 - Productive Cardiac Physiome and CiPA meetings in Toronto. Nick wins the best student poster award at the Cardiac Physiome Meeting in Toronto! Whoo-hoo! Ele gives an invited talk at the meeting entitled "New insight into subcellular heterogeneity and temporal characteristics of the fight or flight response in cardiac myocytes". Both Ele and Nick also participate in the CiPA meeting held after the conference.

Eventful AHA meeting. Ele attends the American Heart Association Scientific Sessions and presents two invited talks. “Modeling Arrhythmias: What Can We Learn About Triggers?” In Frontiers in Science: Arrhythmia Research Summit: Triggers, Remodeling, and Stressors & “How Computational Modeling Leads to Improved Therapeutic Strategies in Patients with Atrial Fibrillation” In Mind the (Translational) Gap: Advancing Atrial Fibrillation Research from Cells to Arrhythmia Units.

New undergraduate student joins the lab. Lin-Lin Liu is a new Student Research Assistant in the lab!

Oct 2017 - New postdoc. Dr. Haibo Ni joins the lab as a postdoctoral scholar!

New rotation student. Saghi Nojoomi, an MCIP graduate students, rotates in the lab for the Fall Quarter.

New paper out. Nick's paper on K channel inhibitors in chronic atrial fibrillation is accepted for publication in Frontiers in Pharmacology - Pharmacology of Ion Channels and Channelopathies!

New NIH grant awarded. The Grandi Lab (with Clancy, Rippliger, Lewis, Santana, Harvey and Wu) joins the Stimulating Peripheral Nerve to Relive Conditions (SPARC) grant investigators at UCLA in the Comprehensive Cardiac Neural Mapping & Computational Supergroup. We will receive ~1Mil $ for the first year!

Jul 2017 - New paper out. Nick's paper on simulation of IKur blockers for AF therapy was accepted for publication in Chaos! AND Nick received the CTSC-TL1 Predoctoral Fellowship!

Jun 2017 - QE passed. Congratulations to Nick, who passed his qualifying exam!

 

Fellowship awarded. Nick is a recipient of the 2017-2018 Summer Graduate Researcher Award to support graduate research in engineering, computer sciences, and disciplines with engineering-related applications and methods. Congratulations!

Fellowship awarded. Nick received Pharmacology and Toxicology Block Grant Fellowship!

Jul 2017 - Frontiers in Pharmacology Seminar series speaker. Superb talk by Cathy Proenza (photo at left), who visited the lab and the Department this summer!

Apr 2017 - Journal cover. We got the April cover of Journal of Physiology!

 

New paper out. New paper out on cAMP compartmentation in cardiac myocytes, in collaboration with the Zaccolo lab at the University of Oxford.

New rotation student. Hwoi Chan Kwon, a graduate student in Biophysics, rotates in the lab.

February meetings. Ele and Stefano attended the Biophysical Society meeting in New Orleans, LA. Stefano presented his poster on sinoatrial node cell modeling and sodium homeostasis effects on regulation of the heart rate.

Ele and Nick attended the Gordon Research Seminar and Conference on Cardiac Arrhythmia Mechanisms in Ventura, CA. Ele serve on a career panel, Nick presented his first poster on kinetic modeling of IKur-binding drugs.
